Are you going on a trip and feeling unsure about how to protect your kids from the sun? You’re not alone. Many of us are aware of the risks of sun exposure and its consequences — from painful sunburns to premature skin aging and, in the worst cases, skin cancer. But how do you actually manage it? And how do you get your children to want sun protection?
The simplest solution would, of course, be to stay indoors — but how fun is that? We all want to be outside enjoying ourselves, while also feeling confident that we’re protected in the right way. “I’ve chased my kids around with sunscreen so many times, always worrying that the protection would fade during the day. Eventually, I thought, there has to be an easier way to do this,” says Kalani customer Sara Sandgärde.
Below we’ve listed some concrete tips to help keep your little ones protected from the sun during autumn and winter travels:
-
Clothing is the best protection. However, a regular cotton shirt can provide as little as SPF 10.
-
Apply sunscreen to areas not covered by clothing.
-
Always wear a hat, ideally one that protects both the neck and the face.
-
Stay in the shade as much as possible.
-
Stay indoors during the hours when the sun is at its strongest.
All Kalani garments feature UPF 50+, with long sleeves and legs, made from a thin and breathable Italian quality fabric.
