Dr Moa: Advice on how to protect yourself from the sun

At this time of the year many people are going on vacation to the sun. UV radiation is a significant risk factor for all types of skin cancer, so today I will give you some advice on how you can protect your skin from the sun:

- Wear clothes for protection. Do not forget a hat and sunglasses to protect your face, eyes and ears. Sun protective clothing are often thin, comfortable and convenient to wear.
- Avoid to be in the sun when the radiation is most intense, approximately between 11 am to 14 pm in the day.
- If you are outside during the day, stay in the shade. A parasol is great for protection!
- Use a sunscreen (at least SPF30) on the parts of your body that are not protected with clothing. Do not forget to apply several times per day!
- Remember that you are exposed to the sun even if you are not actively tanning, for example when skiing, golfing, sailing or gardening. It’s common to get burned in situations like this.
- The sun is stronger in countries closer to the equator, so remember to be extra careful if you are there.

Now have a great day whether you are at the beach, gone skiing or just having a regular Tuesday. In any case, stay safe in the sun!
